    [Dishonest tactics] I’ve come to this salon for many years and renewed my package several times. I thought I’d continue to go there even though my regular stylist had left. Unfortunately, I’ll now never go back after a really unpleasant experience today with their dishonesty.
    I went in for a haircut and the hairstylist recommended I do scalp treatments as well. She showed me the price list for various treatments as well as the haircut, and even highlighted that GST is now 8%. Imagine my surprise when, after my appointment, they told me that a CNY surcharge of 10% is imposed unless I buy a new package. (My previous package only had $6 left on it after deducting today’s cost, which they said was “not enough”.) When I said that they’d never mentioned a CNY surcharge, they said that it was clearly stated on the sign outside the shop. The sign outside is the one attached – you can see that it states “NO SURCHARGE Chinese New Year” in super large font, but “terms and conditions apply” in tiny font. The cashier pointed to the tiny font and said this meant that a surcharge applies unless you have a package. I said that this had never been explained to me and I would never have thought of it upon seeing the sign like this. They replied that sometimes hairstylists forget to explain because they are “busy”. Given that she took me through the price list and even highlighted the new GST rate, it is ridiculous that she would have forgotten to highlight that a CNY surcharge applies unless you buy a package. She didn’t even ask to check if I had a package or “enough value” left on it – which would be the natural thing to do if you have a surcharge policy that depends on it. In any case, the sign is clearly disingenuous, and it is obvious what effect it is trying to achieve.

    It doesn’t matter how good the quality of service is when such disingenuous pricing tactics are used. Do avoid this salon. Ironically, I probably WOULD have renewed my package again, but they’ve definitely lost this customer and the other friends to whom I’d recommended this place.

    Eileen was super patient and kind with me. I was desperate because I had been invited to an after-work party and had no way to wash and fix my hair. They welcomed me and pampered me, I felt understood.
